woman wins turing award

Frances Allen has won the AM Turing award, the Nobel Prize equivalent for computer science. For the first time since 1966, a woman has won it. She won it for her work in parallel computing at IBM.
How many more firsts are we going to see from women? Harvard's first woman president, a potential first US woman president etc. I think by the end of this century, men will recede to the background, like their hairlines. Maybe to golf courses, 24 x 7 bars, sports stadiums and other manly pursuits. ;-)

ramana

I spotted this gem of a question-answer session with the greatest sage of the twentieth century that walked on this earth, as Ken Wilber, calls Ramana Maharishi.

I wonder if the early quantum physicists like Heisenberg, Schrodinger etc. ever sought Ramana's insights. If they did, it would have been too whacky for them and if they did not, it will only be a matter of time before science finds those ever-elusive answers in spirituality.

proposal

Yesterday, a good friend of mine proposed to a woman, he met over the Internet, and she accepted, albeit, after two weeks. It is refreshing to know that, women these days, do no't fall for the single-pointed attention of men. My friend is actually lucky - I had to wait for a year to get a response to my proposal. In retrospect, I am happy I suffered through every nanosecond of that year in waiting. It is hard to believe, but my mind could callibrate time down to a nanosecond, during that period!
O, how I long for that romantic phase of life!

dj

Dennis Johnson is dead. The man who finished off Bird's steal of an Isiah inbound pass, is dead. Dead at 52. Just like that. I hate the nonchalance of death.

humanity

I am back after a long silence. Silence, during which, no musing spurred me to blog. I feel this is my one and only outlet. So let me turn the faucet slowly.
What I find amusing is the lack of humanity among us teeming humans. I feel like wearing a t-shirt that loudly shouts 'I too am a human being'.
